Comedian Charlie Murphy, elder brother of Eddie Murphy, was laid to rest Wednesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Murphy, who died April 12 after a battle with leukemia, had been in the midst of a multi-city comedy tour with Cedric The Entertainer, Eddie Griffin, D.L. Hughley and George Lopez.
“Darkness is spreading … paying last respects to brother Charlie Murphy,” tweeted Mr. Griffin Wednesday, THR reported. “Darkness” was a nickname musician Rick James once gaveMurphy.
In addition to his tourmates, Comedy Central alum Dave Chappelle was in attendance at Murphy’s April 19 memorial service, THR reported. A one-time security guard for his more famous younger brother Eddie, Murphy was a stand-up comic who came into his own in part thanks to Mr. Chappelle, who regularly featured him on his eponymous TV show.
In the recurring skit “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories,” Murphy and Chappelle performed humorous send-ups of documentary-style looks at the lives of music legends such as Rick James and Prince.
