Trooper stabbed before fatally shooting man in Westminster
Maryland State Police said a trooper fatally shot a man Monday morning in Westminster after being stabbed by him.
Officials said the preliminary investigation indicates that around 8 a.m., a trooper was responding to a call for destruction of property. The victim of that crime gave police a description of the suspect and said he was armed with a knife. The trooper encountered the man in the intersection of Washington Road and Stoner Avenue and tried to talk to him, and a struggle ensued. The man stabbed the trooper and then the trooper shot him, police said.
The man and the trooper were taken to separate hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The suspect was pronounced dead at the hospital.
